Missing Trees

I've got to admit that having the house on the market during the holidays sucks. Christmas decorations fall under the category of too personal.

Project Management

My take on Project Management:

Project Management is about getting people to do what needs to be done on time, usually in a situation where you don't have any authority to bring consequences down on their heads should they fail to live up to their obligations.

It takes a special kind of twisted to do effective Project Management. In most cases, you have all the responsibility, but none of the power to get things done.

Some analogies that are WAY to accurate concerning Project Management

  • ... like nailing Jell-O to a tree, without the Jell-O
  • ... cat herding, through a field randomly populated with shiny things, fresh fish & catnip
  • ... juggling chainsaws while pedaling backward on a uni-cycle, though a flaming hoop
I happen to love convincing people that they've come up with a wonderful new idea that they MUST immediately implement. There is also the added bonus of bring able to use Jedi mind tricks on a daily basis. In many ways it is engineering where you manipulate people instead of code, circuits or widgets.

The true benevolent overlord excels at Project Management.
