Downsizing

I've made up my mind. I want a smaller house. Over the last six months or so, I've found myself systematically simplifying things and it appears that I've run out of little stuff. Actually, this decision has come from multiple directions.

  1. I don't need the extra space (simplify)
  2. I don't like cleaning the extra space (simplify)
  3. I've realized that if I want to work on my next promotion, I don't have the time to devote to general upkeep on the house.
  4. I want more disposable income (smaller mortgage)
  5. The house needs kids in it. Any family that move in will find an array of children to play with
It shouldn't have taken me by surprise, but it did. When I realized that I was going to be moving, I felt a bit shell shocked. I'm not sure how I missed seeing it coming since I've been heading this direction for months.

The more I've been thinking about this recently, the more I'm leaning toward looking to townhouses. Most townhouses would mean an instant loss of yard work and community pool. Now to figure out how to balance this during a trip to Europe...

Independence Day

Bittersweet Adieu

The time has come for moping cats & floors to wax
A garage to clean & sorting things
With small despair at the work ahead
An old domicile to put to shining
A new to find & claim

The time has come for fond goodbyes
Our micro cosmos has run its course
This time the last where she comes as a child
When next we escape time will brand her an adult
The end of a cherished era

Time demands that the transition continue
Today I am not a friend of time for I wish to cling to now
But I will let her go and rejoice with her discoveries
Soon the world will have its say
But today, not yet today

Happy Birthday Dad

I hope you're having a great day.

My Friday

My own personal hell for Friday the 13th. The day started with an ATM that didn't work. Finding another makes me choose between having breakfast or being on time to an appointment. I skipped breakfast. After my appointment, I went out to my car and realized that I should have been late. The tires were fine, but there is now a scratch on the driver's side door and I found a piece of the side panel on the ground. From the scratch and the location of the piece, someone was in a hurry to leave. So whomever you are, thanks for nothing!

I suppose I could be more ticked off, but I'm going to wait until I find out what it is going to take to get it fixed. I do find it a bit unnerving that the panel piece "popped" off the side of the car. Granted I've been wondering whether I'll get a new place with a garage and keep my car or trade it in for a non-convertible, but I didn't think the car heard me.

The Pro Garage Arguement: 1) No weather between myself and the car 2) Car is less likely to be stolen, hit or vandalized in a garage 3) Other stuff can also be kept in with the car 4) I like my car 5) Less distance to travel in Rain and snow with groceries

The No Garage Arguement: 1) Places with garages tend to run about $30k more than ones without. 2) No garage would really make changing vehicles necessary. 3) I drive a convertible red sports car and the insurance on any other car would be a dramatic decrease.

From what I've seen, it may be easier to find a detached home with the size and configuration I'm looking for, but I'm done with exterior maintenance. Those are jobs I don't mind, but I don't like doing them by myself. I'd rather just default that chore to someone else at this point.

Busy, but Good

I've been busy lately. Some of it has been fun (WoW & Harry Potter), other has been work and some has been house prep.

Oh Insanity

Unless something drastic turns up, there is a really good chance that I'll be putting my house on the market in the next 7-10 days. If that happens, there's a really good chance that I'll have a new address before I head to Europe on vacation. It is possible that is just the paint fumes talking though too...

Counting Down

I'm going to try and keep everyone up to speed on what is going on. Too bad I didn't think of it earlier or maybe I could have gotten TLC to help with this.

Target - 29 days to finish the house, sell it, close, buy a new place & move. The fumes may still be affecting my brain...

So here's the plan:
Goal - Finish my prep work on the house by Friday

  • Paint the office tonight & hope it doesn't need a second coat after inhaling primer fumes Sat & Sun.
  • Identify what I don't need as far as clothes for the next 6 weeks & prepare to pack it up.
  • Get out the decorations & set them aside for packing (X-mas tree, wrapping paper, etc)
  • If Bryan gets me boxes, start packing stuff up

    Tuesday Items -

  • Finish painting (if needed)
  • Continue packing
  • Clear out the closets (linen, coat & spare bedroom)
  • Laundry - linens & towels for staging

  • I'll keep the RLS

Have you seen the side effects for some of these medications? If I develop this (although my parents may say that I already have it), I'm not taking the medication. In one study, 9% of the participants had hallucinations. People reported going from wide awake to asleep, WHILE DRIVING. They warn that you may have impulse control problems while on this stuff. "These include pathological gambling, hypersexuality, and compulsive eating (including binge eating)." If you develop any of the compulsive problems, they SUGGEST that you consider discontinuing the drug.

So bouncing legs OR hallucinating, nympho, narcoleptic with gambling & compulsive eating issues...

I'm keeping the bounce in my legs...

I found this on their marketing site!
